  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons cold butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped apple
  • 1 cup confectioner's sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
  3. In another bowl, mix milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Combine with dry ingredients and fold in chopped apples.
  4. Drop batter by 1/4 cup onto prepared baking sheet. Bake for 11-13 minutes until golden brown.
  5. For the glaze, whisk confectioner’s sugar with milk and vanilla extract. Brush over warm fritters before serving.
