  • 1 lb Ground Beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 1 medium Green Bell Pepper
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 1 cup Tomato Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Tomato Paste
  • 1/2 cup Ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Yellow Mustard
  • 1 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Chili Powder
  • 1 tbsp Smoked Paprika
  • 1 tsp Ground Cumin
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 cup Water or Beef Broth
  • 4 Hamburger Buns
  • Optional Toppings (Shredded cheese, coleslaw, pickles, or sliced onions)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  2. Once cooked, drain excess fat and add chopped onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic. Cook until vegetables are tender.
  3. Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, vinegar, chili powder, smoked paprika, cumin, black pepper, salt, and water or broth. Mix well and bring to a simmer over low heat.
  4. Let the mixture simmer uncovered for about 30 minutes while stirring occasionally.
  5. Lightly toast hamburger buns and serve the sloppy joe mixture generously topped with your choice of optional toppings.
