  • 1 lb beef strips (sirloin or ribeye)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce (divided)
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 large onion, sliced

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, oyster sauce, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil. Add the beef strips and marinate for 10–15 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté the sliced onion until soft and slightly caramelized; season with salt and pepper before removing from the pan.
  3. Increase heat to high and add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Stir-fry the marinated beef for about 2–3 minutes until browned.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together remaining soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch. Pour this mixture over the beef in the skillet.
  5. Let simmer until thickened; add back the sautéed onions and mix well. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
